This Groundhog Day if you live in the Southeastern United States, think about waking up early (between 6:00am and 7:00am local time) to see a beautiful astronomic
al event: Jupiter and Venus, two of the brightest objects in the night sky, close together, almost in conjunction, near the crescent Moon. They’ll be visible in the Southwest, rising shortly after 5:00am. Or if you turn West at about the same time you’ll see Saturn. Check out the Astronomy section of Weather Underground to find the best viewing times for your neighborhood.
If you want to know whether to expect six more weeks of winter, keep your eye on the groundhog. If you want to see something really extraordinary, though, keep looking up.
